Advantages to Having Various types of Medicine On Hand

You may think that it is foolish to keep medicine on hand for all types of occasions. You may think that it is a waste of money and that you are being over prepared. You reason with yourself that many of the things that you thought of being prepared for are things that will never happen anyway. What you do not realize is that there are advantages of keeping all sorts of medicine on hand for all sorts of occasions.

Can Get Relief Immediately

When you have all sorts of medicine on hand for all sorts of occasions, you can get relief immediately. You do not have to wait until it is convenient for you to go to the store or wait for someone to bring the medicine to you. You have the medicine right there in the house with you, and you can just take it and get the relief that you so desperately need within a few minutes time. You will not have to sit there and be miserable for goodness knows how long.

Can Get Better Quickly

When you are prepared and have the medicine right there with you, you can get better much quicker than if you had to wait for the medicine. Let’s say, for instance, that you have a really bad headache and it is late at night. You do not have any headache medicine in the house, so you have no choice but to go to bed and wait until morning, hoping that the headache will disappear. While sleep will get rid of most headaches, it will not get rid of migraines or sinus headaches. You will need to take something for those most of the time. If you do not have the medicine with you, your healing time will be longer. If you do have the medicine, however, you will be able to take the medicine, go to bed, and then wake up bright and cheery.

Since you see the benefits of being prepared, you should get started in stocking up. When you get low, you need to purchase more.

Tips for Keeping Your Medicine Organized

When you have a lot of medicine to take, it can sometimes become difficult to remain organized. You may become confused and miss a done, or you will forget the last time you took one or two of your medicines. You should not feel bad if this is happening to you. This happens because you have to so much to keep track of. These types of occurrences are quite common for those who have to take tons of medicine. You should not condemn yourself or think that there is something wrong with you. What you should do is be proactive about getting organized with your medicines. There are some tips to help you make this happen.

Getting a Pill Box

One way that you can keep your medicine organized is by keeping a pill box. A pill box will enable you to keep your medicine in line, so you will never miss a dose. You can have a weekly pill box for the morning, a weekly pill box for the afternoon, and a weekly pill box for the evening. If you need to, you can have two to three pill boxes for each time of day, if one will not hold all of your pills.

Having a Check List

Another way that you can keep your medicine organized is by having a check list. A check list will enable you to keep track of the medicines you have to take and when you need to take them. To make these check lists, you can make up enough of them for the week. You should have one check list for each day. Organize these daily check lists in columns. One column is for the morning medicine, another column is for the afternoon medicine, and then you have a column for evening medicine. Check off each medicine when you take it, so you will be able to keep track.

How to Properly Clean a Foot Spa

A foot spa is not only a luxurious thing to have, but for some people it’s medically necessary. When medical equipment is used daily it can get pretty dirty. It must be clean and germ-free for the next use and it’s recommended to clean them each night so they are ready in the morning. Nobody wants a disease contracted from a foot spa.

For foot spas with a whirlpool, air-jet basin or pipeless foot spa, or any other circulating spa follow these directions.

1.) Take off the filter screen, the inlet jets and all other removable parts from the basin. Clean out anything that may have been trapped within those parts or underneath them.
2.) Using a scrub brush and hot soapy water, scrub the parts until they’re all clean, following manufacturer instructions if they’ve been supplied.
3.) Rinse off the parts with clean, clear water and then replace them in the basin.
4.) Fill the basin with hot water and add the recommended EPA-registered hospital disinfectant. Follow the label instructions.
5.) Turn the basin on and allow the water with the cleaner to circulate through the system for at least 10 minutes, or whatever the label says. The whirlpool mechanism must be operating for complete disinfection of piping and all internal parts.
6.) After disinfection, drain the basin and allow it to air dry.

For basins without circulation, or simple basins:

1.) Drain the basin and clean out any visible dirt or debris.
2.) Fill the basin with hot, soapy water and scrub the bowl clean with a brush. Disinfect after washing with an EPA-registered hospital disinfectant, following the manufacturer’s guidelines. Disinfectant must stay wet on the surfaces for 10 minutes (or what the time the label says) to completely disinfect unit.
4.) Drain and rinse unit, and allow to air dry.

New Cover for Plaster Cast Keeps it Dry and Clean

Got a plaster cast, and taking a shower is difficult? How about trying to cover it with a plastic bag duct-taped to the limb? Sadly, people actually do this and it’s a war of wills, between you and the plastic. A new medical accessory is needed or the cast may or may not stay dry and the whole fight will have been for nothing.

There is a company who makes a special cover for casts on different body parts, and it’s waterproof. It covers the full or half arm and full or half leg casts and it can make bathing much more comfortable. They’re totally submersible, durable and comfortable.

The company’s name is LimbO Products (www.LimbOProducts.co.uk) and they have all the sizes anyone could want, from baby size to large adult size. When one is ordered, it’s sent out the very next day, so customers get them as quickly as possible.

Medical Equipment That Goes Outside

Also carried by the same company is an outdoor cast protector, so any outdoor activities can still be done. People can walk in water and the outdoor foot cast protector keeps the foot and apparatus totally dry. The website shows a little girl playing in the sand at the beach with her outdoor arm cast protector on.

The testimonials left by their customers are impeccable, and seem to have every compliment a company can have, from fast and excellent service, to the product being everything they say it is. Here are just a few of the testimonials on the site:

~It does exactly what it says, thank you!
~A shower AT LAST!
~My husband is not an outdoor worker, but this proved really useful to keep his arm and hand dry and protected from the weather when out and about doing ordinary things such as dog walking and shopping!
~Very very helpful, so nice to be able to have a bath or shower without worrying whether my cast is getting wet.

Vision Prepaid can Help With Medical Expenses

As the end of the year comes closer, there are a lot of things to think about. The biggest on my mind right now is that soon we will be in a new health care year. This means that we will have to start paying all of the deductibles again, and worry about the money for medical bills. Unfortunately, as we all know, insurance doesn’t cover everything. We do have a flex spending account, but even that doesn’t always cover it all. What if something big happens, and we end up with more in medical bills than we can cover with insurance and flex?

A friend of mine told me the other day about her solution to this problem. They have a Vision prepaid card that they use specifically for this situation. They add extra money that they have, when they have it. Then, if it’s needed to cover medical expenses later, the money is there. If they are lucky enough not to have to use it for doctor or hospital bills through the year, they have some extra money to splurge with.

I think I might have to try this myself. When we talked about it as a family, everyone else thought it was a good idea, as well. I know that it would definitely take a weight off of my shoulders. It is really stressful to think about what could happen, and the possibility of not having the money to cover it. Medical expenses are one of the few bills that I worry about the most, and having a back up plan in place is one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time. Not to mention, if we don’t end up having to use it, I could really use a new wardrobe!

This offers an objective way to rate the quality of the used equipment you are about to purchase. Some of the websites that offer used equipment work just like a regular store, holding sales and daily specials offering you more savings on already discounted items.

Some other places where you can find used medical equipment are in your local thrift shops and at local yard sales. This type of shopping generally yields results in areas such as crutches, blood pressure monitoring, and equipment for seniors such as special beds and bathroom equipment. The benefit of shopping at a yard sale or thrift shop is that you can handle the product before purchasing, ascertaining its strengths and weaknesses. The negative part of this type of shopping is that you don’t always get specifically what you are looking for.

Looking for a used medical equipment wholesaler is another way to purchase medical equipment at a deep discount. This type of seller purchases items in bulk, and carefully refurbishes old equipment until it is in decent working condition. Your body will start to exhibit flu-like symptoms and may often cause you pain and suffering until you get your next fix.

The same is true with diet pills. Becoming addicted to diet pills can greatly harm your body. While it may seem exciting at first that you are losing weight, what you don’t realize is that you are losing weight in an unhealthy way. Image via Wikipedia

If you are looking to purchase used medical equipment, but have only previously bought new, you may have a few questions. In fact, many people who have purchased used medical equipment previously may even have some questions.

One frequently wondered question is whether or not you will be able to use the device, because you may not have the user’s guide. Frequently, the seller will provide the guide as well as the equipment, but if this is not the case, you can generally find it online. It is suggested that you make sure you can find it on the Internet before you make the purchase.

Are returns acceptable? You will want to check with the seller on this. Make sure that you understand their return policy. If the person selling the equipment will not accept returns at all, you will want to make sure, before money changes hands, that the equipment is in proper working order.

What types of medical equipment can you get online? There are many types of devices that you can find online, and many of them used. For example, you may be able to find everything from a medical monitor to wheelchairs and more, that have been used.

Will a guarantee be offered with the equipment? Unless you are getting your used medical equipment from a local hospital, and even then, it may not come with a guarantee. They may be long past their manufacturer guarantee, and therefore the person or company selling them may not be able to offer you a guarantee. It doesn’t hurt to ask, though!

Is buying used medical equipment safe? In most cases, it is safe to purchase used medical equipment. As long as the equipment is not something that could contain hazardous material or waste, you should be fine. It doesn’t hurt to talk to your doctor to find out if it would be safe to get used.

Things You Should Not Buy Used

Injections are one of many ways to administer ...

Image via Wikipedia

Though there are medical devices and accessories that you can easily purchase used, there are some things that you will want to definitely get new. Because of possible health issues, there are quite a few things that you will not want to get used.

One thing that is fairly obvious would be anything that has to do with blood, or poking yourself. For example, you don’t want to buy syringes used. This is extremely detrimental, and potentially life threatening. If someone is offering to sell used syringes, you may want to consider letting authorities know, as this is not only dangerous, but in a lot of places, it is illegal.

Buying something like a diabetic glucose monitor second hand could be considered dangerous. Though there is little likelihood that it would be contaminated, many people are concerned about this. Because of this, these are usually highly suggested to be purchased new, rather than used.

Clothing that is used for medical reasons should generally be bought new. For example, circulation hose, or circulation socks are something that most people are going to be more comfortable with purchasing new. In most cases, there is not a medical reason to purchase them new, but most people do not feel comfortable buying them used. Along with this would be sheets for a bed. Many beds that are used for medical purposes, such as those in hospitals, require a certain size and type of sheet. Purchasing these used, while not necessarily a bad thing, can be uncomfortable for many people.

Many people find it easier to purchase some medical equipment new, rather than used. For example, finding crutches that are the right size may be more difficult to find used, rather than to just head to the pharmacy. No matter if you buy used or new, knowing what is safe to buy used and what is better to buy new is important.
